What is it that you want to do?
First of all, you need to consider what it is that you want to do. What are your passions, what are your motivations and what is your drive? Are you looking to work in an office or perhaps would you prefer a job that involved travel? Do you enjoy fast-paced environments? What type of interaction do you want to have with others?
By thinking about and knowing things such as the type of environment you’d like to work in, the hours you can tolerate and the opportunities you seek, you’ll be able to determine the types of jobs and industries which appeal to you and in which you will best fit.
Freshen up your CV
It’s worth taking the time to update your CV and see what areas you may need to improve upon to get the job of your dreams. Remeber that your CV should be bespoke to each role you apply for, highlighting the most relevant skills and experienceIt will also be worth your while to look at how the layout, content and formatting of CVs have changed in recent times.
Ensure your CV and covering letter is tailored to the positions you’re applying for and include all relevant skills and experience. Avoid using a standard cover letter as it will not be appropriate for every postition and most employers can spot them very easily.
Make yourself visible on social platforms
Most of us know the saying ‘It’s not what you know, it’s who you know’, and even though the phrase was coined many years ago, it has never been more relevant or true and social media has reinforced just that.
With many companies now using social media to attract and identify talent, if you’re not visible on platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, you could be missing out on opportunities. However, it is vital that you visibility on these platforms is positive. It would be a good idea to review your online presence and ensure that there is nothing that may put off a potential employer.
Learn something new
To help you stand out from the crowd in your hunt for a new job, why not consider studying for a new qualification, such as learning a language?
