Richard Bruton TD, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise & Innovation, together with Michelle Peluso, Chief Executive Officer, Gilt (www.gilt.com), today announced that Gilt is to make a further investment in its Irish operations with the establishment of a Platform Innovation Centre in Dublin.
45 software engineering roles will be created in Dublin by Gilt over the next two years as a result of the new investment, and the company will also continue to add finance and customer service positions in its Limerick office. Gilt first established operations in Ireland in 2011 and currently employs 150+ people in Ireland, with offices in Limerick and Dublin. In calendar 2012, Gilt’s gross revenue was just under $550 million up from $450 million in 2011.
Speaking during a visit to Gilt’s global headquarters in New York, Minister Bruton said: “E-commerce is a major growth sector that we have targeted as part of our plans for jobs and growth, and in recent years we have seen significant progress in this area. Gilt is a world-leading and highly innovative company in this sector which established its first European operations in Ireland in 2011, and today’s announcement that it is expanding further with the creation of 45 high-end jobs is great news. This confirms the message I have been getting in the boardrooms of major US companies throughout this week – Ireland’s reputation is now strong, our offering is highly competitive and with continued strong implementation of our plan we can see further jobs growth in the multinational sector in the coming months and years”.
Michelle Peluso, CEO Gilt said; “Our Irish technology team has been instrumental in further developing Gilt’s core ecommerce platform, bringing a combination of engineering discipline, innovation and a passion for quality that is rare. We are excited by the opportunity to further harness the rich, deep talent pool available to us in Ireland. Our Platform Innovation Centre in Dublin will own and accelerate some of Gilt’s most critical development projects.”
The project is being supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland. Welcoming the announcement IDA Ireland, CEO Barry O’Leary said; “Gilt’s operations in Ireland continue to go from strength to strength. Gilt will join many other companies in Dublin that have chosen to open software engineering operations here. Gilt has spoken of the deep talent pool that they see in Ireland for software engineers – this is a view we hear from many of our client companies.”
