AdRoll has announced that it is setting up its European headquarters in Dublin, creating 100 jobs in its first 12 months and what it described as “ambitious plans for further staff growth”.

The company, which provides a retargeting platform for advertisers, said its move to Europe is driven by strong annual growth of over 600pc in this market in 2013.

The Dublin operation will be responsible for sales, account management, marketing, HR, and finance across a number of languages and countries.
The company opened its Irish office in August and has so far taken on 15 people.

“We have seen exceptionally strong demand from advertisers across Europe attracted to our high performance, transparent and flexible advertising platform. Adam Berke, president of AdRoll. “With the launch of our European headquarters in Dublin, we’re excited to dramatically expand the AdRoll organisation with the exceptional talent available in Ireland. Considered one of the Best Places to Work in San Francisco, we hope to build a similar culture for our European staff, which in turn should benefit our growing European advertiser base.”

In June, Inc Magazine named AdRoll the fastest growing advertising company in the United States in 2012 and the third fastest in 2013. In Europe, the digital ad platform grew 600pc year on year in 2013, and now counts over 1,350 active advertisers. In total, AdRoll has over 10,000 active advertisers in over 100 companies that have propelled their run rate to over US$100 million this year.

AdRoll Europe will be led by Marius Smyth, managing director and former head of UK and Ireland SMB sales at Google.

“We have ambitious plans to establish a large, high performing multilingual team in Ireland to serve advertisers across Europe,” said Smyth. “Having experienced 600pc+ growth in the past year in Europe, we are thrilled to now have a physical presence in the region so we can bring our existing and future European advertisers localised support and customer service.”

Twitter is well on its way to achieving its stated goal of employing 200 people in Dublin by the end of this year and is now at ‘140 characters.’

Speaking with Siliconrepublic.com today, Stephen McIntyre, managing director of Twitter Dublin, said: “Unlike our product, we’re obviously not going to stop at 140 characters.”

In September, Twitter announced that having reached the 100-employee mark it was going to further to create 100 new jobs in order to have 200 employees by the end of 2014.

“We currently have at least 20 to 25 distinct roles available, from public policy to sales, marketing and engineering, at various seniority levels.

“At the moment, there are 15 different functions in Dublin, including HR, sales, engineering, policy-making – a whole cross section of the company as we get closer to our goal of 200.”

McIntyre said Dublin’s vibrant ecosystem of multinationals and start-ups is providing Twitter and other technology companies with a deep pool of talent.

He said Twitter’s workforce in Dublin is 50pc Irish and 50pc international.

“We’ve had a very positive experience hiring across the board,” McIntyre said.

Black also recently won the PepsiCo Women’s Inspiration Network award.

“We’ve been following Sue’s many great initiatives for a long time, and we’re thrilled to finally bring her to an Irish audience for the first time,” said Ann O’Dea, CEO and editor-at-large at Silicon Republic. “We know that Sue will bring another dynamic and inspirational voice to this key discussion of how we meet the skills challenge in coming years.”

As the race continues to find and attract the best talent, Ireland today finds itself competing with an ever-growing number of countries for the best candidates in science, technology and innovation. The solutions will be examined at the second annual Future Jobs Forum.

Cleverbug raises €4.4m in latest funding round – plans to create 25 new jobs

Cleverbug raises €4.4m in latest funding round – plans to create 25 new jobsCleverbug raises €4.4m in latest funding round – plans to create 25 new jobs

Kealan Lennon, CEO and founder of Cleverbug

Social gifting company Cleverbug has raised €4.4m in a new funding round led by Delta Partners, bringing its total equity investment to €6m so far. As a result, the Dublin-based company will be creating 25 new jobs this year.

The funding will help to accelerate the next phase of business development at the Dublin company, further global expansion, and new product developments.

This year, Cleverbug will add 25 positions to its company to expand operations, broaden the breadth of the product and its functionalities, and seek strategic partnerships.

From a mobile device, such as an iPhone or iPad, Cleverbug’s app allows consumers to spot through social media if a friend’s birthday, anniversary or other life event is coming up.

Then, for less than US$3, they can customise a card from more than 400 templates and have it physically delivered anywhere in the world within 24 hours. The card also appears in the recipient’s news feed on Facebook for all of his or her friends to see.

“This time last year, Cleverbug was a simple birthday card iPhone app with elegant social graph technology,” CEO and founder of Cleverbug Kealan Lennon said.

“We never would have guessed that in a year we’d scale the product to such a degree that our users all over the world can now meaningfully celebrate almost every major holiday and every milestone with friends and family in minutes.

“Our users love CleverCards, and in 2014, we’re going to give them more of what they love, by continuing to improve the service and introduce new product.”

Cleverbug has developed proprietary algorithms that leverage its users’ Facebook connections to create beautiful, high quality greeting cards to send anywhere in the world.

The company has access to 76 printing facilities worldwide.

Fuelling momentum across the social spectrum

Speaking with Siliconrepublic.com, Lennon said the investment will fuel the company’s current momentum.

“We are in discussions with a number of online and mobile partners who are looking to use CleverCards to monetise their user base through the sale of printed personalised cards,” he said.

“We are also in discussion with some large traditional global brands (whose customer base is mainly female) who want to leverage our technology and infrastructure – we solve a problem for those brands by giving them immediate access to a highly personalised product, on mobile, which has deep integration into their social graph – but fundamentally is an e-commerce opportunity selling real tangible personalised products.”

New technology developments on the horizon include a continued emphasis on user experience (UX) as well as auto-processing of photos.

“We process around 7bn photos at any point in time for 50m friends and family, so that the user is presented with an exceptional match in terms of suitability, appropriateness, and so on.

“It is this magic that our customers comment on, and the facts speak for themselves. Around 85pc of our users use the photos we have auto-populated, auto-sized with face recognition technology into card templates. This is simply not easy.

“We’re also building capabilities to offer additional greeting card content and further personalised photo and digital gift products.

“We recently developed our ‘CleverBook’ – this is a place where the loved ones in your life exist. No other social network has this and we intend to improve this unique ‘real social network’, where a mum is a mum and a godchild is a godchild not just a contact or a friend,” Lennon explained.
